Scheduled to take place between May 18-20, 2023, the three-day event will celebrate the talents of African film production, culture, fashion, music and other elements of entertainment.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Head of West African Content and Channels at MultiChoice, revealed this year’s AMVCA schedule at a press conference held today, March 23, 2023.
According to her, “The AMVCA has over the last 8 years become the unit by which excellence is measured and recognized and this 9th edition of the AMVCA is in a unique position being organized in the 20th year of Africa Magic’s operations in Nigeria. and at a point where film production across Africa is entering a phase of global recognition and appreciation.
This year, in partnership with Amstel and Zagg Energy Drink, we will be running a 3-day event that began with the call ending on March 17. We have a 40% increase in the number of registrations compared to the last edition. . The pre-selection has started and we will move on to the evaluation phases.”
Tejumola revealed that the three-day celebration will kick off with the Opening Night event and Cultural Day, followed by Digital Content Creators Day, Young Filmmakers Day, and then the Runway Show/Gala Nominees for the next day. The celebrations will end with the Awards Night.
Veteran film director, producer, and writer, Femi Odugbemi, has been announced as the head judge for the 9th AMVCA.
He said, “Since its inception, AMVCA has been a celebration of Africa, a celebration of our cultures, our heritage, our stories, our stars and the excellence of their talent. The work of our jury will be difficult as many of the shortlisted entries display excellence. technique, great storytelling and captivating performances. As usual, there are also nominee categories where we invite you to vote for your favorite shows. Please support their choices with your vote.”
the nominees for this year will be revealed on April 9, 2023 at 7pm on all Africa Magic channels.
Once this is done, the voting portal will open before the highly anticipated award ceremony.
