Katy Perry presented an award to Miranda Kerr and compared her to a “sister” in an emotional speech at a glitzy event in Los Angeles.
The 38-year-old pop star walked the red carpet with her fiance’s ex-wife Orlando Bloom at the G’Day USA Arts Gala on Saturday (01.28.23) and then took the stage to introduce the model for Excellence in the arts. Award: explains why she decided to honor the actor’s ex.
Katy told the audience at the Skirball Cultural Center: “Many of you may be confused as to why I am presenting Miranda with this award.
“It doesn’t fit the ex-wife/new-wife narrative. Many in the media would like to see us wrestle in the mud…but this is about love, and Miranda is love. I’m so thankful for our modern blended family.” . It’s like I’ve gained another sister, one I’m usually in the main family chat sidebar with and agree with.”
Miranda was previously married to actor Orlando and they are the parents of 11-year-old Flynn. After the couple divorced in 2013, Orlando began a romance with ‘Firework’ singer Katy. They got engaged in 2019 and welcomed a daughter named Daisy in 2020.
Miranda previously opened up about her relationship with Katy during an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ explaining that they all hang out regularly and that she’s delighted that Flynn has a big, happy family.
The former Victoria’s Secret star said: “I adore Katy and I’m so happy that Orlando has found someone who warms his heart so much, because at the end of the day, for Flynn to have a happy father and a happy mother is just the most important thing.
“I am so thankful that Orlando and Katy found each other and I am so thankful that I found my amazing husband. [Evan Spiegel] and only that we all really respect each other.
“When it comes to special occasions, when we have to be together, we work it out to have commitments. [about] what is best for our whole family.
“We really always think about what’s best for Flynn, and I think that’s the most important thing.”
Miranda is also the mother of two minor children with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, whom she married in 2017.
