The interesting catalog of content includes news, music, sports, reality shows, documentaries, drama series, movies and children’s programs.
Speaking at the content discovery event held on March 16, 2023, West African Content & Channels Executive Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, Dr. Busola Tejumola, said customers should expect a new and diverse set of indigenous stories. captivating and relatable on the Africa Magic channels.
In his words, “It’s been 20 years of Africa Magic and Nollywood growing together, building careers and global talent. In 2003, we began the journey of telling authentic Nigerian stories at Africa Magic to build a platform where Nigerians see themselves in relatable stories that they reflect our culture.In 2023, we find ourselves celebrating 20 years of creating and telling Nigerian stories.
This year, we intend to break further boundaries and find new frontiers in local storytelling. We look forward to making sure that Africa Magic remains at the forefront of Nigerian storytelling. We are adding 28 more series titles and 20 original Africa Magic movies for our customers, starting in April 2023. This year, we are also investing more in our indigenous productions across our language channels: Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.”
Referring to MultiChoice’s investment in increasing content on its platform, Tejumola noted that Africa Magic started with a single channel in Nigeria and has since expanded to a group of seven channels.
“From April 2022 to March 2023, we had over 2,500 hours of production and licensed 10,000 hours of authentic Nigerian stories. We have stories in English and in indigenous Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo languages, broadcast to more than 42 African countries,” she stated.
Highlighting some of the new content customers may be looking for, West Africa Production Manager, MultiChoice Nigeria, Victor Aghahowa, said the new list of content includes ‘The Residence’, ‘Ripples’, ‘Apo’, the drama series Igbo ‘Ugwu’ and ‘Iwe’.
He also revealed that Africa Magic will now premiere 130-episode series every six months instead of 260-episode series every year. The slate of new shows also includes a new unscripted game show, ‘Mind and Body,’ and a new drama series, ‘Simbirella.’
Customers will also continue to enjoy local and international sports entertainment content through SuperSport channels, including matches from the EPL, FA Cup, CAF Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Champions League and specials from the wwe.
