Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State has been named one of the top 10 leading universities in Nigeria.

Its position on the list also confirmed the university’s ranking as the best state university in the country.

According to a Thursday statement from LAUTECH Public Relations Officer Mr. Lekan Fadeyi, the proclamation, which declared LAUTECH as the 10th best in Nigeria, was made by the Times Higher Education, which surveyed 1,799 universities in 104 countries.

He said: “The league table is based on 13 performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international perspective.

“Times Higher Education is a British magazine that reports specifically on news and issues related to higher education. Since its first issue came out in October 1971, this is the first time LAUTECH has appeared in THE and Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Mojeed Liasu describes it as commendable progress for the institution.

In another similar development, Just Events, an online publication launches what it called the Best Universities in Nigeria 2023, listing a total of 12 institutions where LAUTECH still ranks as the only state university to make the list.

For its part, LAUTECH has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Kentucky, Lexington, United States, in the field of transnational programs.

The collaboration is geared toward having qualified doctoral candidates from LAUTECH’s seven engineering academic programs conduct their research and academic programs in Kentucky. Its aim is to improve the development of staff and students and to improve the international ranking of LAUTECH.

The engineering courses included in the agreement include: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, among others.

The Director in charge of the LAUTECH International Office, Prof. Timothy Olabiyi, explained that the new relationship was intended to establish and recognize a formal connection between the two institutions.

He listed other engineering courses to include Chemical and Agricultural Engineering.
