Name: love Desai

Previous title: President and CEO, Optum Pacific West

New title: President, Health Care Delivery, CVS Health

Effective Oct. 17, Desai will lead CVS’s newly created health care delivery division, overseeing the implementation of CVS’s health services and care delivery strategy, according to a statement from the Woonsocket-based company, Rhode Island. That includes CVS’s clinical delivery strategy in retail health, chronic disease management and behavioral health.

The division will work to link different aspects of the CVS portfolio to develop payer-independent products and services, according to CEO Karen Lynch.

Desai previously served as CEO of UnitedHealth’s Optum Pacific West, an integrated delivery network with more than 20,000 physicians. Prior to Optum, Desai was president of the values-based medical group HealthCare Partners.

CVS has been investing heavily in its health care services as it moves to become a full-service health care provider, particularly in primary care clinics, home health care and telemedicine. The company, which owns high-paying Aetna, is currently undergoing a major renovation of its stores and plans to add a few hundred primary care centers to its network of health-focused MinuteClinics, pharmacies and HealthHUB locations.

And in September, CVS signed a definitive agreement to buy home care provider Signify Health for $8 billion, with Lynch saying at the time that the purchase would allow CVS to design new care delivery models.
