Flamingos beat Chile 2-1 to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup

After playing their first two group games at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao, the Flamingos faced Chile at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

The Flamingos started strong when midfielder Blessing Emmanuel converted a pass from Opeyemi Ajakaye in the fourth minute.

Chile won their first game against New Zealand but suffered a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of European champions Germany, needing a win against Nigeria.

Chile dominated possession but the Flamingos created the best chances and went into the break ahead.

In the second half it was more of the same as Chile showed desperation committing more players in attack while the Flamingos held on to their lead.

In the 82nd minute, the Flamingos got the second when Bisola Mosaku converted a pass to her from Amina Bello.

Tali Rovner converted a penalty for Chile in extra time to set up a tense end to the match.

The Flamingos would hold on to claim all three points and finish their group stage with six points from a possible nine.

The win means the Flamingos finished runners-up in Group B as Germany defeated New Zealand 3-1 to claim top spot.

The Flamingos qualify for the quarterfinals and now await their rival from Group A with Morocco, Brazil and the United States of America (USA).
