Jonathan Akpoborie hopes Super Eagles coach José Peseiro improves after Algeria loss

Date:

Peseiro is off to a poor start with the Super Eagles with four (4) losses in his first six matches.

The Portuguese manager took over the Super Eagles in May 2022 and has so far lost four of his first six matches as Super Eagles manager.

The Super Eagles recently lost two friendly matches to the local and first-choice Algerian national team during the international break in September.

Speaking about Peseiro’s performance so far, Akpoborie candidly stated that he has not been impressed with the matches the Portuguese strategist has overseen.

The former VfB Stuttgart striker noted that the Super Eagles team still lacks an identity under Peseiro, a characteristic he hoped to have seen after the manager took over.

Akpoborie said as reported by Algeriemondeinfos: “I have not been impressed by the performance of the Super Eagles since José Peseiro took over.

“With the few games played so far, I was hoping the team would have an identity for the way they wanted to play.”

The 61-year-old former soccer player pointed out that the Super Eagles had no coordination from defense to attack in the last friendlies they played against the Algerian Desert Foxes.

However, the former Nigeria international was optimistic that the Super Eagles will improve with more games under Peseiro.

“The game against Algeria, the Super Eagles really didn’t have that solid understanding. There was no construction from defense to midfield and then attack,” Akpoborie explained.

“Well, I want to believe that with more games they will improve somewhat and we will have the Eagles to which we have always aspired.”

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Portuguese national team in a friendly match on Thursday, November 17, before the 2022 World Cup begins.
