The filmmaker recently revealed data confirming that the epic title was ranked at number one globally, almost two weeks after its streaming debut.
According to data, Anikulapo is currently in the list of the ten most viewed non-English speaking films on Netflix with a total of 8,730,000 global views.
“While it is celebrated by Nigerians at home and abroad, the acceptability of it by people around the world with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs proves beyond words that Anikulapo tells a universal story with which all human beings of the world can be identified”. Afolayan said.

Produced and directed by Afolayan with Kunle Remi in the lead role, the film set in the ancient Oyo empire follows a young man’s search for greener pastures.
The Netflix original debuted to rave reviews on October 1, 2022. Most of its fans praised the cast’s performance and portrayal of Yoruba culture.
Afolayan has since revealed plans for a spin-off series based on the film.
