Sportscaster and social worker Ken Laban says his career in local politics began reluctantly.

Mr Laban has returned for a fourth term on the Greater Wellington Regional Council, representing the Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai/Lower Hutt district.

He says his first run for Lower Hutt Council came from community pressure.

“I didn’t think it was me. I didn’t think it was suitable. I didn’t think I had any idea what I was doing There’s still a little bit about me that thinks that’s still true but now I’ve been elected to my fourth term on the regional council and if I count my first time for Hutt City Council in 2010, is the fifth time that I have been chosen. It gives our people a voice. It gives the communities we come from a perspective on the table,” says Mr. Laban.
