New world champion asks for a fight with Anthony Joshua

Date:

Demsey McKean wants to fight Anthony Joshua at the Gabba cricket ground in his home country of Australia.

Joshua is expected to fight sometime in December this year, but no opponent has been confirmed. There are plenty of potential candidates as he looks to win again after his second loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in September.

After the fight, McKean said, “I think I did [enough to warrant a fight with a top name next]. It was also an early knockout, and I’m going to have to hold Eddie. [Hearn] to that, I think the Gabba said against AJ, obviously that would be my first preference but any of those top-tier guys that he mentioned.

“Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte, I have a lot of respect for those guys that have done a lot for the game and I think now is my time and I need to start climbing those rankings pretty quickly and I think a win over one of those top guys is going to put into contention pretty quickly.”

Eddie Hearn, who promotes both fighters, saw the fight as a possibility.

He said, “Yeah, look, he’s 22-0, he’s in the top 10 in the world, what else do you have to do? He still has to fight one of those elite guys, but that’s what happens, you build your record, you learn in the game, you build yourself up the ranks and then you fight one of the elite guys, that’s the natural next step. .

“So if AJ gets on his bike and does this world tour that we’re talking about, no kidding about Gabba, that’s an amazing night of boxing, Anthony Joshua vs. Demsey McKean there. Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, Zheili Zhang, Filip Hrgovic, 100 percent a big name will be next for Demsey Mckean.”
