Onuachu scores 5th and 6th goals of the season as Genk win 6-1 to extend lead at the top of the league

Date:

Genk posted five wins from five consecutive league games and widened the gap between themselves and second-placed Royal Antwerp at the top of the Belgian league.

The game saw the home team put five into the back of the net even before half-time, against a Westerlo side who played more than half an hour with ten men after Nene Dorgeles’ red card.

Genk had taken the lead from Royal Antwerp on the previous matchday, following an away win at OH Leuven and an Antwerp loss at Standard Liege.

The first chance on Tuesday night was for the visitors, but Lyle Foster couldn’t open the scoring. Almost immediately. Bryan Heynen served Ghanaian striker Joseph Paintsil, who made no mistake in scoring Genk’s first.

After fifteen minutes, the match seemed over when Daniel Muñoz was able to touch the ball over the line from close range for Genk’s second, but Westerlo managed to score from the penalty spot six minutes later.

After that, Paintsil and Onuachu combined to create a ‘jollof goal’, the Nigeria international scoring his fifth of the season, before his second of the night, and his sixth of the season from the penalty spot just eight minutes .

Munoz then also grabbed his own brace just before halftime with the assistance of Paintsil.

Considering the score of the first half, the second half really seemed unnecessary, and things got even worse for Westerlo when Dorgeles received a red card in the 58th minute.

The visitors then tried to play for more than half an hour with ten men without conceding any more goals, however the final score came to 6-1 thanks to Patrik Hrosovsky.
