KRC Genk started the match very confident but soon seemed to take a hit. Leuven were awarded a penalty early in the game after a handball from Cuesta and were on their way to taking the lead, however Genk goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt managed to stop him.

It also seemed to give Genk a boost as they managed to take the lead after just fifteen minutes of football through Onuachu. It was the Nigerian’s fourth goal of the season.

Leuven did not give up and immediately went in search of that equalizer. Federico Ricca, Casper De Norre and Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson all had chances, but Genk kept a clean sheet.

Things got a little easier for Leuven after Angelo Preciado received a red card just before half time. However, he remained 0-1 until the break.

After the break, Leuven came out of the locker room and managed to put Vandevoordt to work on several occasions.

Little by little, the equalizing goal seemed deserved, although the Genk goalkeeper still managed to keep his goals clean.

For ten-man Genk, the second half was mostly survival, but they managed to keep Leuven from scoring. In the end, Genk came out on top, securing their fifth consecutive league win and extending their unbeaten run to 11 games.
