Rakness drives Cardinals to win hockey | News, Sports, Jobs

RED WING — Fairmont Area forwards Nate Rakness and Jace Teveldal combined for five points to help propel the Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over Mora/Milaca in the third-place game of the River Bend Holiday Hockey Tournament Classic on Thursday at Red Wing.

Rakness turned in an unassisted goal to put Fairmont Area to a 1-0 lead after completing one period at Prairie Island Arena before Teveldal produced the Cardinals’ lone goal in the second period to keep them ahead, 2 -1. Luke Kester and Rakness combined for a double assist on Teveldal’s lamplighter.

The Cardinals then seized a couple of power-play opportunities during the third quarter to seize a lead they wouldn’t give up.

Brock Lutterman scored a power play goal off an assist from Tyler Kurt before Rakness scored his second goal of the game via power play and a double assist from Kester and Teveldal.

Goaltender Carson Johnson produced 36 saves between the tubes to score the win for Fairmont Area, which had 36 shots on goal.

The Fairmont area (1-6) hosts Luverne at Martin County Arena in Fairmont on Tuesday, January 3.
