Security experts praise the Army in the fight against the insurgency

A cross-section of security experts from across the country have praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts to combat the insurgency, especially in the past year.

Security experts speaking at the launch of the Annual Report on the Federal Government’s War on Insecurity/Insurgency in Nigeria organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in collaboration with the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations on Rights and Security, held at the International Conference Center, Abuja, on Wednesday night, also praised the army for standing up for human rights.

The event was attended by a large number of CSOs from all over the country.

In his welcome address, the Chancellor of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Prof. Shaibu Danfulani, said that Nigerian Army special forces had fought terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, bandits and other insurgents. such as Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Dance Python, Operation Crocodile Smile, among others.

Professor Danfulani said: “Between 2015 and 2022, Boko Haram has degraded significantly. They no longer carry out attacks on government facilities and public institutions.

“The government is working. Nigeria is safe. Congratulations to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired).

“The new inter-institutional collaboration is very strong. We have several departments; diplomats, the Department of State Service, the Army, the Air Force, the Navy; everyone is working.

“The Chief of the Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, and other service chiefs have shown their passion and have carried out the best war against the insurgency… It is a thumbs up that I give to the government in its efforts to address security. challenges.”

Keynote speaker Professor Katuka Yaki urged Nigerians to be patient and have faith in the Nigerian military, stressing that even developed nations have their own security challenges.

Prof Yaki, who was represented by Associate Professor Okpe Okpe, said that despite Nigeria’s enormous size, the Army had achieved significant success in the war on insecurity.

He said: “Regardless of the fact that Nigeria’s security is overloaded, they have achieved an important goal. They have achieved the goal that would be difficult for any country to cancel.”

Other speakers included ASP Olugbenga Joseph (retired), Dr. Theodore Orji, and Dr. Steven Audu, among others.
