Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers is confident Cremonese will escape relegation from Serie A

Date:

Cremonese earned automatic promotion to Serie A for the 2022/23 season after finishing second in Serie B during the 2021/22 season with 69 points.

However, the Giorgiorossi are fighting a direct return to the lower division as they currently sit 19th in Serie A with just four (4) points from their first 10 league games.

Dessers joined Cremonese on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window after impressing in the UEFA Europa Conference League for Feyenoord during the 2021/22 season.

Despite not having won in the league so far, the Super Eagles striker believes Cremonese can still pull together and prevent a return to Serie B.

said desserts HL as reported by scorenigeria: “I don’t think we’ll go down. If we’re going to continue with the results that we’re seeing now, it could relegate us, so it would be great to be above the danger zone in no time.”

Dessers recently broke his goalscoring duck for Cremonese, finding the back of the net in front of their home fans in a 4-1 loss to league leaders Napoli on Sunday 9 October.

The Nigerian international, who had previously gone eight (8) games without scoring for Cremonese, followed Napoli’s goal with another against Spezia for a 2-2 draw.

Dessers admitted that it was a nice feeling to score his first goal for Cremonese as he hopes he can now show his quality in Serie A, where he has always dreamed of playing.

“It was a nice feeling (to score), but I’ve always kept my cool. Maybe in the past I would have worried more. But now I have more experience,” Dessers said.

“I know what I can do and I’m sure I have my place in this league. Sure, I can say it now. But I hope it shows it too.”

“This was my dream. I already played in a packed Olympic Stadium against Roma, faced Inter at the San Siro and recently scored my first goal against a strong Napoli.

“We lost 4-1, but I scored the equalizer. At least there was something to celebrate.”

Cremonese will go in search of their first Serie A win of the 2022/23 season when they host 20th-placed Sampdoria at the Stadio Giovanni Zini on Monday 24 October.
