To confirm the plans for the award, Media Director Tope Ajayi announced that the upcoming ceremony will kick off with events culminating in the gala evening at the bespoke Jewel Aeida Ballroom in Lekki, Lagos.
The media director unveiled the scheduled activities for the event, saying that the 18th edition of the continental awards ceremony will kick off with the graduation of trainees by the African Film Academy on October 25, 2022.
The graduation ceremony will be followed by Wellness Day on October 27, 2022, while on October 28, 2022, dignitaries and fashionistas will attend a series of conferences including diaspora discussions, music discussions and cinema, and will culminate with a fashion show. .
A nominees party is expected to follow on Saturday, October 29, 2022, while the AMAA gala will be held at the Jewel Aeida Hall on October 30, 2022.
Speaking at the award ceremony, filmmaker Bolanle Austen Peters, whose film, ‘Man of God‘, garnered more than five nominations, including best director, best actor and best actress, describing the AMAA as a rewarding platform needed to encourage burgeoning filmmakers in Africa.
“It’s not just about the awards, it’s about people getting recognition for their work. Making movies isn’t easy and we need the AMAA to continue the good work of encouraging the continent’s burgeoning filmmakers.”
Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Culture, Arts and Tourism Commissioner Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf.
