Eva Mendes quit acting because she was tired of being offered “shitty” roles.
She’s best known for appearing in ‘Hitch’ and ‘Ghost Rider,’ but the Hollywood star hasn’t appeared in a blockbuster for over a decade.
After only appearing in three projects between 2013 and 2021, it was speculated that the actress has left Hollywood for good.
Speaking on the ‘Fitzy and Wippa’ podcast, the mother of three – who shares daughters Esmeralda Amada, eight, and Amada Lee, six with her actor husband Ryan Gosling – addressed the claims explaining that she left to focus on family.
She said: “I would go back to acting for a big role, I took some time off to be with the kids because they were so young, our oldest son had just turned eight.
“But it’s also because they’re offering me some pretty fucked up roles and I’m so sick of taking them. I was sick of it. I said ‘you know what’s not worth it’. If I’m going to be gone for a few months, I might as well do something that’s really cool.”
Mendes recently admitted that her 2014 performance in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut ‘Lost River’ was the high point of her career and that she is up for anything but violence and sexuality.
She wrote on Instagram: “I never stopped acting.
“I wanted to be home with my babies, and luckily my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting ever would.
“Also, I wasn’t thrilled with the stereotypical roles that were being offered to me at the time. Especially after working on the movie LOST RIVER, that was a dream project. That’s a tough act to follow. What is the point of this post? To change that narrative. I never give up. I have a short list of what I will do.
“Like, before the kids, I was kind of up for anything, you know, if it was a fun project. But now I will not do violence. I don’t want to do sexuality. The list is short.”
