Guardiola criticizes Kevin DeBruyne despite scoring against Brighton

Date:

What Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City players said after a comfortable 3-1 against Brighton

The Belgium international scored City’s third goal with an impressive long-range shot in the 75th minute to seal the three points.

But it seems his manager wasn’t that impressed, as he made a statement criticizing DeBruyne’s performance after the game.

“Unbelievable. The goal was unbelievable,” said Pep Guardiola, enthused by Kevin DeBruyne’s strike, but less impressed with the overall performance.

“He could be better, he’s not at his best moment…” Guardiola remarked when asked about his captain’s performance.

On the game in general, Guardiola had this to say: “Today, the game was one of the most difficult we can face.”

They [Brighton] propose the kind of game we are not used to. We had no free men. In general, I am very satisfied with the points because it was a difficult game. Congratulations to my players,” Guardiola said.

Kevin DeBruyne had this to say about his impressive shot: “I got the ball from Bernardo Silva, I went through the options, I was in the space, I shot and it went in perfectly.”

“Erling Haaland is there to score the goals and he is having a very good season. He’s helped us win games,” DeBruyne said of his high-scoring teammate.
