(Warning: This article contains spoilers for the house of the dragon final.)
now we know why house of the dragon star Olivia Cooke told E! News waiting “dread” from the end of the first season.
During the final episode on October 23, Rhaenyra (emma d’arcy) learned that his younger brother Aegon (Tom Glynn Carney) usurped her as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Although Rhaenyra considered bending the knee to keep the peace between the divided Targaryen family, she also sent her sons, the Jacaerys princes (harry collet) and Lucerys (eliot grihault), to the other lords of Westeros to see if they would support his claim to the Iron Throne.
However, what should have been a peaceful mission to Storm’s End turned disastrous when Lucerys confronted her uncle Aemond (ewan mitchell). For those who might need a reminder, Lucerys took out Aemond’s eye during a childhood fight. So, there was more than just political conflict there.

In an attempt to intimidate his nephew, Aemond threatened to gouge out Lucerys’s eye, then chased after the young prince on the back of a dragon. The situation turned dire when Lucerys’ dragon Arrax blew fire at Aemond’s dragon Vhagar. This action prompted Vhagar to pursue Arrax with all his might, killing the dragon and Rhaenyra’s child in the process.
Aemond clearly did not wish this outcome, as he yelled at the beast, “Vhagar, No. Nope!”
Although fans of Jorge R.R. Martinthe novel fire and bloodthat inspired the game of Thrones prequel to the series, anticipated this ending, Lucerys’s death was still devastating to watch. Lucerys’s demise not only cemented her mother’s decision to fight for her crown, confirming the bloody Targaryen civil war (known as the Dance with Dragons), but hinted that none member of the Targaryen family could be at risk.
We’re also such fans of the sweet young prince that we’re just sad to see him go.
As for what comes next? house of the dragon It has already been renewed for a second season by HBO.
fabien frankel, who plays Ser Criston Cole, said it best when he told E! News in July: “I will say it’s very well set up if there ever was a second season. The first season is very well set up. They’ve left the door open.”
