Iranian FM criticizes hostile attempts to divide Muslims

The top Iranian diplomat met with guests at the 36th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.

The Institute of Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the meeting on Friday.

Amirabdollahian welcomed the guests and congratulated them on the Islamic Unity Week. He also expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Hamid Shahriari, the secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity Islamic Schools of Thought, in organizing the conference.

The Foreign Minister referred to the remarks of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in a meeting with the participants of the Islamic Unity Conference and referred to a tangible manifestation of the activities of the enemy to divide the Shia and Sunni Muslims in the course of the years of the US occupation of Iraq.

In the years of the US occupation of Iraq after 2003, bizarre and unprecedented incidents occurred to drive a wedge between Iraq’s Sunni and Shiite Muslims, he said, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

Amirabdollahian listed examples of hostile attempts to divide Shia and Sunni Iraqis, saying: “We have witnessed numerous cases of enemy attempts to create a rift in the Islamic Ummah in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon, etc. .”.

He also pointed to recent developments in Iran, adding: “Foreign parties have tried in recent weeks to exploit an internal problem and meddle in the affairs of our country.”

“This is while hours after Mahsa Amini’s death, the president of our country called her father, offered sympathy and ordered a speedy investigation to clarify the issue,” Amirabdollahian added.

“Who can believe that the death of a girl is so important to Westerners? If so, what did they do in the face of hundreds of thousands of martyrs and victims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon? They tried to start a sectarian war in Iran,” the minister said.

“Part of the peaceful demands have been and will be met, but we have witnessed the entry of firearms into the scene of some protests, which have been imported from abroad. We do not have such weapons in Iran,” he stated.

“In the chaos of Zahedan, there was no slogan or image related to Mahsa. A known terrorist group tried to pit Shias against Sunnis and claimed responsibility for it. They did the same thing in a section of Kurdistan, but the insight of the clerics and the Sunni people foiled all their attempts,” Amirabdollahian said.

Elsewhere, the foreign minister said: “Imam Khomeini has left many legacies for the Muslim Ummah: one of them is the Islamic Unity Week and the other is the designation of International Quds Day.”

“We proudly announce that despite all the pressure from the enemies, Iran has provided support to the Shiite and Sunni resistance, and even the Christian one, in Lebanon in the same way as it did in the case of the resistance movements. Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine. ,” he said.

Amirabdollahian also paid tribute to the deceased scholars who were present at the previous rounds of the Islamic Unity Conference, including Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, and prayed for divine mercy for them.
