List Of The Most Expensive Secondary Schools In Nigeria, Their Staggering Tuition Fees Emerge

Judging by their tuition fees, some secondary schools in Nigeria are clearly off-limits to children from middle-class families in the country.

Most, if not all, of the schools in this category follow the British and American curricula, which are international educational standards that capture reform and modern trends in all walks of life.

In ascending order, the schools are as follows:

1. American International School of Lagos (AISL)

Founded in 1964, American International School is for preschool through grade 12, where high school students graduate with a US high school diploma, with the option to earn an International Baccalaureate diploma.

The school’s students (over 600 in population) are mostly American, while others are Indian, British, Nigerian, Canadian, South African, Israeli, Lebanese, and Dutch (Netherlands). The remaining students come from more than 50 different countries.

Tuition is $28,049 for middle school and $32,165 for high school (academic session 2022/23).

2. British International School (BIS)

Located on Victoria Island, Lagos, and founded in 2001, BIS is a multinational coeducational school for boarding and day students aged 11-18.

BIS is one of the most expensive schools in Nigeria and has established itself as a leading British-style educational institution with no more than 20 students per class.

Students prepare for IGCSE and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Advanced Level courses.

School fees are around 6.1 million naira for day students and 8.1 million naira for boarding students.

3. Lekki British International School

Famous as Nigeria’s first British boarding school established in September 2000 at Lekki Phase 1, Lekki British International School’s mission is to create an environment in which students can discover and develop their potential.

Tuition at Lekki British International School is approximately N4.6 million per year for day students and N6.8 million for boarders.

4. Farm School

Founded in 1958 with the aim of providing tailored education in accordance with the UK English National Curriculum, the school is an independent, coeducational, not-for-profit daytime academic institution. It is located at Ikeja GRA, Lagos, Nigeria.

There are 430 boys and girls in the primary section of Grange School, which includes the reception class up to year 6, aged between 4 and 11 years. The secondary phase is from years 7 to 11 with around 326 students between the ages of 11 and 16+.

The school charges around N4.5 million for day students and N6.5 million for boarders per year.

5. Waterman Day College

The university was founded in 2008 and is located in Asu Village near Abeokuta, Ogun, Nigeria.

There are about 500 students, ages 11 to 16, who attend this school.

The university’s mission is to develop young people into leaders who will create needed change in their country, which is why students are encouraged to participate in the wide and varied co-curricular program.

Day Waterman College tuition fee is N5.3 million per session and it is for boarding students only.

6. Meadow Hall School, Lagos

Meadow Hall, established in 2002 and located in Lekki II, is a coeducational institution using an integrated curriculum of Nigerian and British content.

Fees are around N3.2 million for day students and 5 million for interns per session.
