Alex Iwobi scores for Everton and Cristiano Ronaldo’s 700th goal gives victory to Manchester United

The latest of the Nigerian international’s exploits is a superb performance in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

Despite the Toffees’ loss, Iwobi once again grabbed the crowd’s attention with an outstanding goal after just 5 minutes and an action-packed performance as usual.

Everton manager Frank Lampard deployed his newly discovered midfield trio of Iwobi, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Amadou Onana against a more accomplished United midfield of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

However, it was the Toffees’ midfield that came to life first as they won the ball in midfield in the 5th minute and advanced with intent.

Demarai Gray found Iwobi on the edge of the box with a precise pass, with plenty to go Iwobi took the shot after stabilizing the ball, putting it past David de Gea’s outstretched arms.

It was Iwobi’s first league goal of the season, but his third goal for Everton in his last three games after providing an assist each in games against West Ham United and Southampton.

However, Manchester United would end up taking the day after Antony equalized Erik ten Hag’s side in the 15th minute and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a historic goal in the 44th minute to put United ahead.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal against Everton was the 700th goal of his club career, having scored for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and United again in his club career .

Iwobi was once again Everton’s star of the night, putting in a well-rounded performance in both attack and defence. The Super Eagles midfielder scored from his only shot on goal as he saw another shot blocked.

Iwobi had 64 touches on the ball, placing 31 passes with 72.1% accuracy. The Everton midfielder also made two (2) key passes, made six (6) crosses, two (2) long balls and had four (4) dribbling attempts.

Defensively, the former Arsenal player won two (2) of the five (5) games he played, in addition to making two (2) interceptions and one (1) tackle.

Everton will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday 15 October when they travel to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
